[02] Commission has no objection to the conditions for participation at the
International Dental Exhibition in Cologne, Germany
In an administrative letter the European Commission has informed the
Society for the Promotion of the Dental Industry (GFDI - Gesellschaft zur
Förderung der Dentalindustrie mbH) that it has no objections under
competition law to the conditions for participation at the International
Dental Exhibition (IDE). The IDE is held by the GFDI in collaboration with
the local trade fair association every two years in Cologne and is at
present the largest exhibition in the world of products for dentists and
dental technicians. Participants may not take part in any other exhibition
of this kind in Germany for a period of eight weeks before and four weeks
after the exhibition (period of restraint). The Commission takes the view
that this restriction is justified in particular because of the
rationalisation effect desired and the objective of exhibiting as complete
as possible a range of products for use by dentists and dental technicians.
[03] Declaration of intent for the establishment of a regional electricity
market in South Eastern Europe
European Commissioner Christos Papoutsis and the Ministers responsible for
Energy of Albania, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Former Yugoslav Republic
of Macedonia, Greece and Romania signed today in Thessaloniki, Greece, a
Declaration by which they agreed, in a spirit of political and economic
cooperation, on the necessity to establish a Regional Electricity Market
(REM) in South Eastern Europe with the view to improve the competitiveness
and the economic efficiency of the electricity systems in the region. Such
a REM is expected to make a significant contribution to the competitiveness
of the South Eastern European industrial and economic development and is
expected to create directly and indirectly new jobs and new opportunities.
They also agreed to follow a phased approach for the creation of this REM
and the year 2006 is considered as an indicative target by which a first
stage of regional market development could be accomplished. The Commission
encourages the countries in the region to use the different Commission
programmes in order to move towards a REM.
