[01] Commission gives green light to aid resulting from the dioxin scare in
Belgium
The European Commission has authorised three state-aid schemes in Belgium
to compensate owners of fresh meat and products from pigmeat, beef and
poultrymeat that have been seized and destroyed by order of the competent
authorities because of the risk of them being contaminated with dioxin.
There is a ceiling on this compensation of 80% of the cost price, or the
market price (average price in Belgium during August 1999) if this is less
than 80% of the cost price. Where it proves impossible to arrive at a cost
price, a flat-rate payment will be introduced based on the average cost
price over a given period for meat products of a comparable kind.
