[02] Commission intends to allow GlobalOne to provide full telecommunication services within the EU

The European Commission has indicated that it intends to allow GlobalOne, the joint venture created in 1996 by Deutsche Telekom, France Telecom and Sprint, to provide all telecommunications services, including voice telephony, in all the Member States of the European Union. Before adopting a formal decision to this end, the Commission has published a notice in the Official Journal inviting all interested parties to comment. The Commission's position is based on the market developments since it approved the creation of GlobalOne in 1996, including the entry into the market of other substantial competitors such as the BT/AT&T venture.

[04] Commission clears a joint venture between Kirch (Germany) and Mediaset (Italy) in the TV sector

The European Commission has authorised the Eureka joint venture between the Kirch and Mediaset groups of companies. Eureka will be mainly active in TV broadcasting, sale of TV advertising, TV productions and distribution of TV rights internationally. Since both groups are essentially active in different geographic markets, there is no significant overlap between them. Also, the activities related to the assets transferred to Eureka are essentially complementary. The creation of Eureka will not, therefore, create or strengthen a dominant position in the European Economic Area agreement.
