[01] Northern Caucasus: Commission approves humanitarian aid worth ECU 4.18
Million
The European Commission has approved a package of humanitarian aid worth
ECU 4.18 million for civilians affected by the war in Chechnya, bringing overall
EU humanitarian aid to a total of ECU 35 million. The aid, channelled via the
European Community Humanitarian Office (ECHO), will enable the World Food
Programme, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and
non-governmental organisations from Belgium, France and Italy to carry out a
coordinated programme until the end of the year.
