HELSINKI - Russian President Boris Yeltsin said on Saturday Moscow was
prepared to join the European Union as part of its drive to be integrated into
Europe.

BRUSSELS - The European Commission said on Saturday it "takes note" of a
statement by Russian President Boris Yeltsin that his country wants to join
the EU.
