[A] Turkish Cypriot Press[01] Akinci replies to President Anastasiades address at the UN AssemblyTurkish Cypriot newspaper K?br?s (27.09.19) reports that Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci has said that he went to New York to discuss the steps which could be taken in cooperation with the UNSG for paving the way again towards a solution in Cyprus and not to start a blame game. In a statement issued yesterday, Akinci replied to President Anastasiades' address at the 74th Session of the UN General Assembly. "The fact that Mr Anastasiades did not refer to the 2:1 rotating presidency when he talked about the document of 30 June, shows that he is still having difficulties in accepting the content of the framework", he alleged.Commenting on President Anastasiades' reference that in spite of the efforts exerted for the past 45 years no solution was reached to the Cyprus problem, Akinci claimed that everybody knew that the Turkish Cypriot "people's" demands for a solution found no reply by the Greek Cypriot leadership and gave as example the Annan Plan and the Crans Montana Conference. He also argued that the three elements which President Anastasiades described as necessary for concluding on the issue of the terms of reference, that is the Joint Declaration of 11 February 2014, the convergences achieved until today and the Guterres Framework of 30 June 2017, were issues underlined by the Turkish Cypriot side for the past couple of years. Furthermore, Akinci alleged that the rotating presidency and the effective participation in the decisions were included among the agreements of the past and were important principles of the political equality, which became a UN parameter. "It is a big contradiction and influences negatively the terms of reference to say on the one hand that he accepts the agreements of the past and on the other to reject these principles', he alleged and expressed the view that it was inevitable now for the UNSG to take a clear stance in favor of these parameters which had become UN principles. (I/Ts.) [02] Ozersay alleges that starting a negotiating process is meaninglessUnder the title "'Starting another process has no meaning'", Turkish Cypriot newspaper Halk?n Sesi (27.09.19) reports that Kudret Ozersay, self-styled foreign minister of the breakaway regime in the occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus, has alleged that during the previous negotiating processes they had seen that the Greek Cypriots did not want to share the island's wealth and administration with the Turkish Cypriots. In statements to the paper's correspondent in New York, Ozersay claimed that in order for any negotiating process to start, the Greek Cypriot side needed to show that it wanted to share the wealth and the administration with the Turkish Cypriots."The Greek Cypriot side should convince us on this issue", he alleged and claimed: "As long as there is no change of mentality, this process will go nowhere. There is no meaning in starting another process, because we do not want to be imprisoned in these processes". Referring to UNSG's Special Adviser for Cyprus Jane Holl Lute's efforts, Ozersay argued that Lute had started "imprisoning" the issue in an "exercise on paper" and added that the Cyprus problem should not be downgraded to a common exercise on paper. Asked to comment on allegations published in the Press that the drilling activities of the Turkish side in the Eastern Mediterranean have stopped, Ozersay replied that the drillings had not stopped and that they would continue. He added that the drillings were interrupted from time to time for supplies and other similar reasons. He said that the ships went away but they would return. Noting that the Greek Cypriot side was not accepting to discuss the natural gas issue with the Turkish Cypriots before the solution, but after the Turkish side's proposal, the Greek Cypriots said, for the first time, that they could discuss this issue before the solution even though they put forward some preconditions. Arguing that the Greek Cypriot side had come to this point due to the "policy of leverage" implemented by the Turkish side, he claimed that on the issue of occupied fenced-off Varosha as well the Greek Cypriot side had "lost its balance" and felt uncomfortable. "We need the Greek Cypriots to be uncomfortable, because if they are comfortable, they will do absolutely nothing", he alleged and reiterated that we were far from being at the point of a federal partnership based on sharing. (I/Ts.) [03] Ozersay met with Pakistan's Foreign MinisterTurkish Cypriot daily newspaper Kibris Postasi (27.09.19) reports that Kudret Ozersay, self-styled minister of foreign affairs, who continues his contacts in New York, met yesterday with Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.During the meeting which was held at the UN headquarters, the relations of the "two countries" and regional issues were discussed. In addition, the situation of the Pakistani citizens working and studying in the occupied area of Cyprus was also discussed. Ozersay, commenting on the meeting, said: "In our country, there are Pakistani citizens, who are working and are also studying, there are even those who are our citizens. Taking this under consideration, we had a very fruitful meeting with the Pakistani Foreign Minister Qureshi at the UN headquarters. Our contacts with him will continue from now on". Meanwhile, Kibris Postasi newspaper (27.09.19,

reports that Ozersay also attended a roundtable at the Turkish Heritage
Organization in New York as a speaker.
Posting at his personal social media account, Ozersay said that he
shared his evaluations on the Cyprus problem and the natural gas issue
in the region. He also answered questions of the participants from other
think-tanks and universities.

He further claimed: "They want a settlement which excludes Turkey from
the picture and which grants us minority rights. Such solution would
weaken the basis of the TRNC and have serious consequences for us".

In a written statement, Elcil said that Turkey has turned its guarantor
responsibility to a concept of conquest, adding: "While all these are
happening, the Greek Cypriots have been sitting at the negotiation table
with proposals, which have not been accepted for 50 years now, by saying
'we want a federal solution', a ground was prepared for them to join
the EU as the owner of the Republic of Cyprus".
Elcil further argued: "The Turkish officials, who are continuing to make
propaganda by saying 'we want solution' exploiting the 65% yes vote of
the Turkish Cypriots on the Annan plan, have put forward also now the
position of two separate states", adding that the Turkish officials,
who declare that "the land is indivisible" and are against the division
of Turkey, when it comes to Cyprus they want a permanent division. He
concluded by saying: "Cyprus is too small to be divided and big enough
for the two communities to live".

"Let us accept that the total of the SIM card holders who are in these
two categories are 100 thousands. Let us erase another 80 thousands
off-the-cuff. What is left? 700 thousands. There are also children and
elder people, who do not use cell phones. Even if we do not add them,
however, the number is there".

Cavusoglu was speaking at an event on sustainable development goals,
organized by Malaysia and Pakistan on the sidelines of the UN General
Assembly in New York.
"Natural disasters such as extreme weather conditions, drought and floods
are expected to rise in near future. International community should
support the establishment of technical and legal resistance mechanism
against these disasters," Cavusoglu said.
He went on to say that environmental problems like desertification, land
degradation and air pollution obstruct sustainable development. "We should
integrate sustainable development goals with national development plans
and policies. It is important. It is very important that all parties
are involved in this process. Close cooperation […] and coordinated
international efforts are necessary," he added.
"For us, the S-400 issue should definitely not damage American and
Turkish ties," Erdogan said in an interview with Fox News, adding that the
procurement of the S-400s is a matter of Turkey's national security. He
also noted other NATO countries such as Bulgaria, Greece and Slovakia
also use Russian defense systems.
Stressing that relations between Turkey and the U.S. go a long way back
and that they're built upon very strong bonds, "our eventual goal is to
expand economic relations between the United States and Turkey and boost
the trade volume between the two countries to $100 billion," he said.
In July, the U.S. suspended Turkey's participation in the F-35 fighter jet
program, saying its purchase of the Russian S-400 missile defense program
could endanger the aircraft, a claim Turkey has consistently denied. At
a bilateral meeting in June in Osaka with the Turkish President, US
President Trump said Turkey had been treated unfairly over its decision
to buy the S-400s and blamed the "mess" on the administration of former
President Barack Obama.
"It is tragicomic that those who rose to power with a coup is criticizing
democracy in Turkey," Aksoy's statement added. Turkey is a responsible
member of the international community and has been calling for the
"Egyptian people's legitimate demands, on democracy, justice, equality,
freedom, accountability and wealth, to be met," the statement read.
Turkey also calls for the end of "human rights violations that have
been prevalently and systematically continuing in Egypt," it added. "The
unconscionable practices in Egyptian prisons and prosecution processes
carried out with political decisions are well known by the international
community. These practices have been subjected to criticisms of various
international organizations," the statement conveyed. Egypt is adopting a
hostile attitude, rather than positively listening to the well-intentioned
calls and suggestions, Aksoy said in the statement. He added that the
Egyptian administration is doing this "to cover up the human rights
violations and overlook the fundamental demands of Egyptian people."
According to the statement, Egypt's effort to target Turkey, which
has a leading role and experience in the fight against terrorism, is a
reflection of its aggressive attitude.
"Turkey has been fighting against terrorist groups such as the outlawed
PKK/YPG, Al-Qaeda, ISIL and FETO," the statement read. "This fight of
Turkey against terrorism, that poses a cross-border threat, has been
contributing to peace and security of the region and the territorial
integrity of neighboring countries, especially Syria," it added.
It is no surprise that "those acceded with coup is supporting putschists,"
the statement underlined. The ministry said Turkey would continue
its principled attitude towards peace and prosperity of the brotherly
people of Egypt and would continue expressing its views on the return
to democracy and establishment of rights and freedoms in the country.
President Erdogan, during his speech at the 74th session of the United
Nations General Assembly, said that Egypt's firstly elected President
Mohamed Morsi's death was a symbol of the need for justice and truth in
the region. "Egypt's elected President Morsi's devastating death and
the fact that his family was not allowed at his burial, is a bleeding
wound for us," Erdogan had said. "It became a symbol for the deep need
of justice and truth in the region," he added.
"Eight people were slightly injured in the earthquake," President Recep
Tayyip Erdogan told reporters at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport returning
from his visit to the UN General Assembly in New York.
