[01] Siber sent a letter to Eide regarding the failure of the Cyprus talks

According to a press release by the so-called assembly of the breakaway regime in Cyprus, in her letter Siber complained that "the most important UN parameter, the existence of two peoples with equal rights on the island was ignored".

She also alleged that "ignoring the democratic structure of the Turkish Cypriot people and abstaining from communicating with its institutions rather than benefiting caused harm".

Claiming that the international community by doing this has encouraged the negative stance of the Greek Cypriot side on the issue of political equality, she expressed the need for working towards changing this manner and lifting all reportedly embargoes imposed on Turkish Cypriots.

Noting that despite all efforts and hopes the negotiations process ended without a conclusion, she argued that by evaluating the negotiations processes and the outcomes until now, the "people" will decide on the road to follow.

Siber also added that it was their greatest desire that whatever the name the solution formula to be found on the island will be, it will contain peace and security and will be viable and respecting the existence and political equality of the two "peoples".

Claiming that a bi-zonal and bi-communal solution based on political equality which is the most important UN parameter of the negotiations held so far, was stemmed from the reality of existence of two "peoples" on the island, she alleged however that by ignoring the democratic structure of the Turkish Cypriot "people", its institutions and abstaining from communicating with its "public offices" and "officials" was against this parameter and was causing contradiction.

Siber also stressed the importance of inter-institutional dialogue and cooperation and added: "As you know, our country is governed by a parliamentary system. In other words, all decisions are taken at the parliament. It's also the parliament where a decision will be taken to put a possible agreement to be signed by the leaders to a referendum."

Alleging that unlike the Cyprus Parliament which had taken a decision to mark the Enosis, the "TRNC parliament" had approved all UN peace plans and lastly had given support to the 11th of February Joint Statement, she claimed that the "assembly" had always reflected the people's will for a solution.

Claiming that all "embargoes" and "restrictions" imposed on the politicians, sportsmen, artists and businessmen in the "country" were against the universal Declaration of Human Rights of the UN and were unfair, she alleged that it should be seen that this did not contribute to the solution of the Cyprus problem.

Siber also expressed the belief that the UN Envoy Eide in the light of the information and experiences he obtained during the two years process and with the reality of existence of two equal "peoples" on the island will give support to the lifting of all inhuman "embargoes" and "restrictions" imposed on the Turkish Cypriot "people".

[02] Albayrak: "We will put in use our own drilling ship within the last quarter of this year"

Albayrak sent important messages on Turkey's energy agenda in a live broadcast on the Turkish channel HaberTurk TV.

Albayrak further claimed: "We will put in use our own drilling ship within the last quarter of this year. We will do our first drilling in 2018. We are forced to be more aggressive on natural gas and oil in the Mediterranean. We will be more active both in land and in sea for oil and natural gas explorations".

Moreover, Turkish daily Sabah newspaper (online, 11.08.17) reports that Albayrak, stating that the operational nuclear power plants will be greatly beneficial for the energy needs of the industry, said that Turkey will be more active in the realization of nuclear projects.

"Before the end of this year, we will lay the ground for the construction of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant. The efficiency of nuclear energy exceeds 90%," Albayrak said and cited the partnership with Japanese firms on the construction of the second nuclear power plant in the Black Sea city of Sinop. He also announced that between 2023 and 2030, Turkey will put three nuclear power plants – the Akkuyu, Sinop and one other whose location has not been officially announced yet – into operation. These nuclear power plants, once operational, are planned to meet 10% of the country-wide electricity consumption, the Minister argued.

[03] A sub-committee was established for enabling the participation of Maronites to the process of returning to their villages

Within the framework of efforts, a meeting was held at the "presidential palace" yesterday where a sub-committee was established with the aim of enabling the participation of Maronites to the process.

According to a press release by the "presidency", during the "committee meeting" which was headed by Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci's undersecretary Gurdal Hudaoglu the legal, financial, technical and social dimensions of the return of the Maronites were discussed. Efforts carried out so far were evaluated and works needed to be done were also planned during the meeting.

According to a program set at the meeting, the respective "government departments" will carry out the necessary works. The next meeting of the committee will be held on Wednesday, the 16th of August.

Meanwhile, the sub-committee established consisting of the "undersecretary of the deputy prime ministry and the ministry of finance" Kudret Akay, "undersecretary of the interior ministry" Gurkan Kara and Akinci's Advisor for Political Affairs and History Meltem Onurkan Samani, will be in contact with Maronites during the process.

[04] Columnist to Akinci: "I want my vote back"

"[…] I know that Akinci is not responsible for the failure of the Crans Montana process. I am not making such an accusation. However, both the statement he had insistently made before Crans Montana that 'this is the last negotiation, after this we will discuss other things' and statements he made after Crans Montana such as 'let the EU take us as a separate state, let us meet in the EU as two states' forced me to take this decision.

When I voted for Akinci in the second round, these were not what he was saying. His opponent Eroglu was saying these. One of the two candidates that remained to the second round was the then president Eroglu who had caused a loss of five years for this community in the negotiating process and the other candidate was the supporter of the solution Mustafa Akinci.

Two years and four months passed since then. A lot of things were done for the Cyprus problem in this period. Both Akinci and the negotiating team headed by Ozdil Nami produced a lot of work. The progress achieved is very, very important.

However, the issue could not end. Even though Anastasiades shows Turkey as the responsible for this, he cannot be persuasive. Neither the UN nor the EU is making statements which would prove Anastasiades to be right. […] Anastasiades cannot persuade his own people. Everyone thinks that Anastasiades has focused on the elections not the solution'.

Exactly at this point, instead of making insistently and obstinately statements supporting the UN parameters, Akinci started saying things that had never been said before. […]"

Findik said that he thought that Akinci would resign because after the failure at Crans Montana he stated that "this was the last effort of our generation, it failed, I hope the new generations will do better". He noted that he thought this because the actual duty of the Turkish Cypriot leader is to administrate the Cyprus negotiating process in the best manner and reach a solution in the direction of the "people's" wish. He added:

"You, however, instead of doing this, started making statements which are tantamount to a two state solution, saying odd things such as the acceptance of the TRNC reality. And the most important, you have also joined the choir saying 'let us now clean the inside of our own house'. As if someone was preventing you from cleaning the inside of your house. […]

Even though we have not been able to fully take the equivalent of our yes vote in the 2004 referendum, we were benefited for a while by the momentum we had gained. Product of that period was the Green Line Regulation and the trade with the south which is continuing today.

Therefore, we should put forward the unification and not the separation. We should put forward unifying, integrative positions and not separatist ones. Therefore, we should defend the UN parameters and not turn our back to them.

Anastasiades and the Greek Cypriot side was the one who was not prepared for the solution at Crans Montana. However, Akinci's wrong strategy and the separatist positions he expresses in the following period, will save Anastasiades and the Greek Cypriot side. And will have no benefit for us. In the contrary, they will cause loss for us.

The supporters of the non-solution are not wringing hand in vain, because these statements are carrying water to their mill.

Therefore, I want my loaned vote back".

[05] Four arrests in a new "FETO operation" in the occupied area of Cyprus

The "police" arrested Emine Gobekci, tenant of the house, Abdullah Kose, a "police officer" who owns the house, Fadime Kose, spouse of the arrested "police officer", and imam Takan Bayi, former tenant of the house. The "police" found similar "evident" in the house which Bayi is currently living in occupied Nicosia. Bayi was arrested at the "airport" while he was preparing to travel abroad.

[06] Fifty nine more "TRNC citizenships granted" by the breakaway regime

The names of those "obtained" the "TRNC citizenship" are published in the paper.

On the same issue, Turkish Cypriot daily Havadis newspaper (11.08.17), on its front page under the title "The government of citizens", criticizes the practice of the "coalition government" UBP-DP to distribute "citizenships" as a gift.

The paper reports that political parties and non-governmental organizations reacted to this performance of the "coalition government". Especially, officers from the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) and the Social Democracy Party (TDP) have worries that the "citizenships" are "granted" for political interests. The opposition parties called the "coalition government" to stop "granting citizenships".

[07] Reddediyouz Platform will start again its protests

Except for Celer, Dogus Derya and Fazilet Ozdefne, so-called deputies with the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), were also present at the press conference.

The representatives of the Platform noted that the community has been divided because of the youth camps which came onto the agenda recently, the Koran courses and various statements and added that they will oppose everyone who discriminates based on people's religion, language, race, doctrine, sexual orientation and ethnic origin.

[08] Hur-Is trade union: 50 thousand foreigners work in the private sector in the occupied area of Cyprus

In statements during the visit, Hur-Is trade union's general secretary Ali Yeltekin said that 92 thousand persons are employed in the private sector and that 45-50 thousand of them are foreigners. He noted that they should not bring labour force from outside in sectors, in which enough qualified labour force exists in the occupied area of Cyprus. Yeltekin described the employment in the subcontracting sector as one of the most important problems in the occupied area of the island and added that the "state" should "produce a policy" as regards employment.

In his statements, Ozyigit said that in case his party comes to "power", they will take the necessary steps for the unionization in the private sector.

[10] Ankara confirms German MPs will visit NATO base in Turkey

Turkey's Foreign Ministry said that the visit would take place within the framework of NATO, of which Turkey and Germany are both members, and that a senior NATO official would accompany the delegation.

Muftuoglu said that details of the planned visit to the base in Konya, in the central Anatolian region, were still being discussed at NATO.

[11] Nine journalists detained over ByLock use in Istanbul

According to the state-run Anadolu Agency, nine of the 35 people have been detained so far, but the police were reported to be continuing their operations at the remaining addresses.

Burak Ekici, the current website editor for the daily Birgun, was among those detained as part of the operation against the media leg of the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETO). Ekici said on his Twitter account at around 7 a.m. on Aug. 10 that he was being held at the Aksaray Provincial Security Directorate after a police raided his apartment early in the morning.

Among the detainees is also Ahmet Sag?rl?, a former columnist for daily Turkiye who was dismissed by the newspaper last week.

Other detainees are Muhsin Pilgir, a former reporter from the shut-down daily Zaman and Cihan News Agency, Omer Faruk Aydemir, the chief of the investigation team of Ihlas News Agency, Sait Gurkan Tuzlu, Cuneyt Seza Ozkan, the former news director of the shut-down Samanyolu TV, Yusuf Duran, Ahmet Feyzullah Ozyurt, and Mutlu Ozay, Anadolu Agency reported.
