    [01] Talat strongly criticizes pseudo-government

According to KIBRIS (10.5.00) the leader of the Republican Turkish Party (RTP) Mehmet Ali Talat, has criticized the so-called government of the pseudostate and branded it the "clumsiest government" that has ever governed the occupied area.

Talat made this statement during a visit, at the head of RTP delegation, to the Turkish Cypriot Association of Chambers of Architects and Engineers (KTMMOB).

During the meeting, the RTP and KTMMOB representatives exchanged views on the economic problems in the occupied area.

KTMMOB chairman Huseyin Inan said that "the standard of living in the occupied is deteriorating" and that reforms should be made aimed at increasing production. He added that Turkish Cypriot contractors are not included in the various tenders.

[02] Pseudostate at Istanbul fashion festival

According to KIBRIS (10.5.00) the pseudostate will be represented at the "Silk Road Fashion Festival Istanbul 2000" that will be held in Istanbul on 11 May.

Turkey, Uzbekistan, Kazakistan, Turkmenistan, Kirgizistan, Azerbaidjan and Pakistan are also taking part in the festival.

[03] Syrian fishermen wanted to reach free areas, not pseudostate

According to KIBRIS (10.5.00) the nine Syrians who landed on the shores of the occupied Koma tou Yialou village and were subsequently "arrested" by the pseudostate "police" have been given three day remand orders.

KIBRIS claims that the nine Syrian nationals, whose age is between 19-28, arrived in the occupied area on a fishing boat. They thought that they had reached the shores of the free areas near Larnaca.

The nine Syrian nationals, namely Hassan Al Facor, Hayel Atallah, Nean Jrai Jedal Karim Hassan, Assem al Taweel, Ammar Maydoub, Khaled Al Awar, Rabiye Al Demch and Salman Chanem said that they boarded the boat at Lebanon and wanted to go to the free areas in Cyprus. They were shocked, reports the paper, when they found out that they were in the occupied area.

They said that they would have asked for political asylum had they landed on the free areas.

[04] Italian journalists have contacts in occupied area

KIBRIS (10.5.00) reports that a group of Italian journalists, who were having contacts in the occupied area, met yesterday afternoon with the so- called foreign affairs and defence minister, Tahsin Ertugruloglu, and the leader of the Republican Turkish Party (RTP), Mehmet Ali Talat.

In a statement prior to the meeting, Ertugruloglu said that the visit of the Italian group was made with the aim to improve the relations between Italy and the pseudostate.

Ertugruloglu also explained to the journalists the latest developments and the "realities" related to the Cyprus problem.

Afterwards, the Italian journalists visited Talat who explained his views and approach regarding the Cyprus problem.

Apart from the four journalists from Italy/s Corriere Della Serra, Il Tempo, La Republica, and La Stampa newspapers, the group also includes a businessman and an "official" from the so-called honorary representation of the pseudostate in Rome.
