[01] Akinci: "There are two separate states on Cyprus"

Addressing journalists following his meeting with Thrisiaan Mark Johan Kramer, the Dutch Ambassador to Italy who is also accredited to Cyprus, Akinci claimed "there is a Turkish Cypriot state in Northern Cyprus and there is a Greek Cypriot state in Southern Cyprus. They have to accept that it is the time to set on a structure with which the two states will share representation abroad by gathering under a single umbrella." He told reporters that the meeting focused on the recent developments in relations between Turkey and Greece, and the Cyprus question following the European Union/s Helsinki Summit last year.

[02] Talat: Solution will be found in the EU

Prior to the meeting, Kraner said that Helsinki has changed the ground for the political developments in the Cyprus problem and has also opened the road for new developments. The Ambassador wished these developments to open the road to the solution of the Cyprus problem and that both sides participate in the EU as one country.

Talat stressed that he believes that the changes which occurred after Helsinki and the improvement of relations between Turkey and Greece will lead to a new situation, adding that the solution will be found in the EU.

Talat said that he will explain to the Dutch Ambassador his views regarding the Cyprus problem and that the support and help of the EU member countries is really important for the solution of the Cyprus problem.

[03] Turkish Cypriots disappointed with Verheugen/s statement

The front page article of HURRIYET KIBRIS under the title "He caused disappointment" and the subtitle "Verheugen: We recognize only the Cyprus Republic on the island" says: "European Union Commissioner Responsible for Enlargement Gunter Verheugen came to the island in order to persuade the Turkish Cypriots to participate in the negotiations. Verheugen made confusing statements at Larnaca airport without taking under consideration the thesis of Turkish Cypriots. Verheugen, who had earlier stated that Clerides/s government does not represent the Turkish Cypriots, said that the European Union recognizes only the Cyprus Republic on the island. Verheugen also stressed that he will not conduct separate negotiations with the Turkish Cypriot side."

[04] Casinos

According to the article the 21 casino-hotels had full occupancy during the 9-day vacation. The owners of the casinos said that they contribute to "TRNC" economy yearly with more than 125 million dollars. So the earnings from the casinos are the second biggest contribution to the development of "TRNC" economy after Turkey/s aid.

According to the casino owners 5 million dollars have been spent in the casinos during these 9 days.

The biggest casino hotels are: Jasmine Court, Salamis Bay Conti, Roks and Oscar.
