[01] Denktash: We cannot do anything without Turkey
Illegal Bayrak Radio 1 (6:00 hours, 22.3.00) reports that Turkish Cypriot
leader Rauf Denktash has said that on the Cyprus issue they cannot do
anything without Turkey. He claimed that the world does not understand the
Turkish Cypriots, and that is why the only friends the Turks have are the
Turks themselves. He stressed that any agreement in Cyprus will be reached
on the basis of Turkey/s guarantees.
He pointed out that Cyprus/ importance for Turkey grows with each passing
day and emphasized that Cyprus will never become Greek.
[02] Another party to support Denktash/s ``election'' bid
KIBRIS (23.3.00) reports that ``Our Party'' has announced that they will
support Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash for the so-called presidential
elections.
The leader of Our Party, Okyay Sadikoglu, said that they believe that
Denktash will complete the ``national cause'' and he is the one who will
defend in the best possible way the Cyprus problem.

[03] Turkish media accused of supporting Denktash
The front page article of AVRUPA (23.3.00), under the title ``According to
SABAH, Denktash has been guaranteed'' and the subtitle ``In order to
support Denktash, Turkey/s Media interferes.'', refers to the articles
published in the Turkish press media in favour of Rauf Denktash.
According to AVRUPA, the Turkish newspaper ``SABAH'' published an article
yesterday saying they guarantee the victory of Denktash from the first
round of the ``elections''.

[04] Talat accuses Turkey of interference in ``elections''
According to YENIDUZEN (23.3.00), the leader of the Republican Turkish
Party (RTP) Mehmet Ali Talat has said that the extended support of Turkey
to Denktash has cast a shadow over the ``elections'', adding that this kind
of interference is like the one that occurred in the 1990 ``elections''.

[05] Number of travellers
According to ORTAM (23.3.00), during the month of February 32,162
travellers arrived in and 28,671 travellers departed from the occupied
area.
