[01] PAKISTANI AMBASSADOR'S ILLEGAL VISIT
BIRLIK (10/6/99) reports that visiting Pakistani Ambassador to Ankara,
Uaramatullah Khay Ghori, had a meeting with so-called prime minister Dervis
Eroglu and so-called foreign affairs and defence minister Tahsin
Ertugruloglu. Eroglu stated during the meeting that "there is identity of
views with brotherly and friendly Pakistan". He added that "Pakistan
supported the Turkish Cypriot people both in its struggle for independence
and in the establishment of its Republic."
Ambassador Ghori stated that "the TRNC is at the top of the preference list
of Pakistani students," expressing his satisfaction for the "high standard
of education."
Furthermore, KIBRIS (19/6/99) reports that the Pakistani Ambassador also
had a meeting with Rauf Denktash. According to the paper, Denktash
expressed satisfaction at the visit, while the Pakistani Ambassador said
that his people "has always been at the side of the Turkish Cypriot
people."
[02] "INTERNATIONAL HANDBALL CHAMPIONSHIP"
KIBRIS (10/6/99) reports that between 11-18 July a so-called international
handball championship will take place in the occupied area, with the
participation of teams from Turkey, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria and
Kazakhstan. The paper says that a Bulgarian handball team called Haskova
has invited the pseudostate to participate in a tournament that will take
place next August in Bulgaria.
[03] ANKARA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE WANTS "TRNC" A "FREE TRADE ZONE"
BIRLIK (10/6/99) reports on the visit in the occupied area of members of
the Ankara Chamber of Commerce and publishes proposals they have made
according to which "the TRNC should be turned into a free zone as a whole"
in order to be able to break the so-called embargoes against it.
The visiting group met with Rauf Denktash, Dervis Eroglu and the Turkish
Cypriot Chamber of Commerce.
