[01] Denktash comments on EU Court´s decision, Hannay´s stand

According to illegal Bayrak radio (9.8.98) Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash has said that the European Court of Human Rights decision on Loizides ``is in violation of the realities in Cyprus'' and added: ``I hope that a respectable organization such as the Council of Europe will realize that the consequences of adopting such an unfounded decision, which completely disregards the legal and political realities in Cyprus, will exacerbate the already complex issue and will serve only to encourage the intransigence of the Greek Cypriots''.

Stating that the Turkish Cypriot side is ready to offer every international organization information and explain the realities in Cyprus on this issue and on other issues concerning Cyprus, Denktash said: ``Undoubtedly, the decisions adopted by organizations, whose respectability cannot be contested, without granting the sides equal and unbiased opportunities to express their opinions cannot be implemented.''

    Furthermore, Denktash added:

``Sir David Hannay, who says that the Cyprus issue can only be resolved on the negotiation table and not in a court, should tell the Greek Cypriots that they cannot have it both ways at the same time''. Denktash continued:

``The conditions for resuming negotiations can be either one or the other:

either the one-sided court decisions or within the framework of the determined parameters under equal conditions and between state to state. You cannot have it both ways.''

[02] Kyrgyz Parliamentary delegation visits the ``TRNC''

According to illegal Bayrak radio (7.8.98) a Kyrgyz parliamentary delegation is holding contacts in the ``TRNC''. The delegation called on Taner Etkin, so-called foreign affairs and defense minister, ``Prime Minister'' Dervis Eroglu, and ``President'' Rauf Denktash.

In a statement at the meeting, Denktash ``expressed pleasure over welcoming this delegation from brotherly Kyrgyztan''. Adding that Cypriot culture stems from Asian culture, Denktash said that the hearts of the Turkish Cypriots and the people of Kyrgyzstan, which is a part of the Turkish nation, beat together. Denktash stressed that problems can be solved better on the basis of mutual cooperation and expressed the hope that reciprocal visits will continue.

Eroglu, in his statement, declared that the visit to the ``TRNC'' by a delegation from Kyrgyzstan, which is continuously developing, is important for the Turkish Cypriot people as well as in terms of the message it will give to certain countries. Noting that in time, the world countries will have to accept the existence of the ``TRNC'', Eroglu said that the visit is also important in reminding the world of this fact.

Tursun Baybekir Ulug, head of the Kyrgyz delegation, said that the decision to pay a visit was made in order to become acquainted with the ``TRNC'' and learn its views regarding the Cyprus issue. He noted that the delegation is leaving with very important impressions. Expressing great unease over the delivery of S-300 missiles to Cyprus, the Kyrgyz official remarked that his country will raise the issue during the CIS interparliamentary union meetings.

[03] CTP´s Talat on Cyprus Government defence efforts

According to illegal Bayrak radio (7.8.98) the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) has called on the Cyprus Government ``to renounce its armament and one-sided sovereignty claims'' and the Turkish Cypriot side to change its stand to abandon the negotiating table and the UN process.

CTP leader Mehmet Ali Talat issued a written statement declaring that ``the Turkish and Greek Cypriots need the negotiating table rather than weapons, solution rather than war, and friendship and cooperation rather than hostility''.

Adding that the Parliament of Cyprus, unanimously decided to increase the armament allocation, Talat said that ``this is the insistent continuation of a policy that will lead all of Cyprus to disaster along chauvinistic and adventurist goals''.
