    [01] Denktash to attend ICO Summit

    According to KIBRIS (2.12.97) Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash will be attending the 8th Islamic Conference Organization Summit to be held in Tehran, Iran between 9-11 December.

    The so-called Foreign and Defence Minister of the pseudostate Taner Etkin.

    KIBRIS further reports that Taner Etkin will leave for Tehran via Istanbul on 6th December to take part in the preparatory meetings. (MY)

    [02] Turkish Minister of Culture arrives in the occupied area

    According to KIBRIS (2.12.97) Turkey's Minister of Culture Istemihan Talay will be arriving in the occupied area today to "sign" a so-called Cultural Cooperation Agreement between Turkey and the occupied area.

    KIBRIS further reports that a big group of artists will accompany the Minister.

    The artists will give concerts and will perform plays. (MY)

    [03] Denktash expects EU to postpone Cyprus application

    According to illegal Bayrak radio (1.12.97) Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash has declared that the so-called "TRNC" expects the EU "not to bow down to Greek blackmail, consider the rights and status stemming from the 1960 agreements in Cyprus, and postpone the Cyprus application."

    Denktash added: "If the Turkish-Greek balance is upset during the EU meeting to be held in Luxembourg on 12 December and the EU doors are closed to Turkey, it will be inevitable to lay the TRNC as a foundation and build the future on this foundation."

    Denktash who concluded his contacts in Istanbul and Germany, explained that he participated in a panel discussion as the guest of an organization established by Turks attending universities in Germany. Denktash said that German parliamentarians who spoke at the panel also stressed that the nonrecognition of the "TRNC" is an "injustice".

    Denktash said that "Cyprus cannot be admitted into the EU as a whole without the consent of the Turkish Cypriots or the membership of Turkey, because for the past 34 years there has not been an institution that represents Cyprus as a whole".

    He added: "The existence of two states is the essence and the reality. If they proceed on the basis of this essence and reality, we can achieve something. If, however, they disregard these realities, as they have been doing until now, they will have sealed this separation."

    [04] Expatriates establish association

    According to KIBRIS (2.12.97) foreigners living in the occupied area, have established an association in the name of "Association of Foreigners living in the TRNC".

    Occupied area's honorary representative in Frankfurt Kemal Erogul, has been elected association's chairman. Among the members are: Germans, British, French, Dutch and US citizens. (MY)
