[A] NEWS ITEMS[01] How Turkish Cypriot press reports on last night's joint concertAll the local papers of today (20.5.97) report about the Rouvas-Kut concert.YENIDUZEN writes under banner headlines: "Peace cannot be precluded in Cyprus" and paints a positive picture of the concert saying: "Thousands of Turkish and Greek Cypriots attended the concert and sang peace songs hand in hand." ORTAM writes: "Attacks by fanatics on both sides in Cyprus were unable to preclude the concert given by Burak Kut and Sakis Rouvas." KIBRIS reports under the banner headline "Forced Marriage" and says that around three thousand Greek and Turkish Cypriots attended the concert, which was carried out without any incident. YENI DEMOKRAT writes: "Although the concert was performed in tranquility and enthusiasm, there was blood on the Greek Cypriot side". VATAN says: "The concert stress has ended. The Kut-Rouvas concert took place last night at the Taksim stadium". The Turkish Cypriot papers also report about the fascist Grey Wolves' attack on Burak Kut's car while on its way from occupied Kyrenia to the place where the concert was going to be held. They also report on the incident caused by a "Grey Wolf" at the concert who tried to provoke people by giving a "Grey Wolf" salute. He was isolated and UN Peace-Keeping Force officials carried him out of the concert area. (MY) [02] Welfare Party Deputy resignsAccording to TRT Television Network (10:00 hours, 19.5.97) Mahmut Sonmez, Welfare Party (RP) deputy from Bingol, has resigned from his party. Sonmez has submitted his resignation to the Turkish Grand National Assembly Chairmanship. This brings the number of RP seats in the parliament down to 159.[03] Asil Nadir flies to Istanbul for the first time in four yearsAccording to KIBRIS (20.5.97) Turkish Cypriot businessman Asil Nadir, who jumped British bail and escaped to the occupied area, yesterday left the occupied area and went to Istanbul for the first time after four years and fifteen days.Asil Nadir left the occupied area aboard a plane that belongs to Top Air. He arrived at Istanbul's Ataturk airport at around 16:45 hours. KIBRIS reports that Nadir will follow up his business concerns in Turkey and will meet with foreign businessmen.
