[01] Cyprus Government to give 100.000 dollars to Iran
The President of the Republic, Mr Tassos Papadopoulos, had a telephone
conversation yesterday with the Iranian President, Dr Sayed Muhammad
Khatami, to whom he conveyed sincere condolences on behalf of his
Government and the people of Cyprus for the calamity that has hit Iran and
the thousands of victims of the recent earthquake. President Papadopoulos
informed his Iranian counterpart about the Cyprus Government's decision to
offer financial and humanitarian aid, amounting to 100.000 dollars, to the
earthquake-struck area in the city of Bam. On Saturday, Mr Papadopoulos
received the Iranian Ambassador to Cyprus, Dr Seyed Reza Hadj-Zargarbashi,
and asked to be informed about the tragic consequences of the devastating
earthquake that hit Iran last Friday. President Papadopoulos told the
Iranian Ambassador that Cyprus would offer aid amounting to 100.000 dollars
to Iran, to help alleviate some of the destructive effects of the
earthquake. He also informed the Ambassador about the Government's
willingness to send in rescue teams and relief supplies to the earthquake-
struck area. The Iranian Ambassador thanked President Papadopoulos for the
Cyprus Government's prompt offer to help and said he would inform Mr
Papadopoulos on the kind of assistance the Iranian government needed.
In addition, the President of the House of Representatives, Mr Demetris
Christofias, has sent a letter of condolences to his Iranian counterpart,
Mr Mehdl Karoubi, expressing deep sorrow and heartfelt condolences on
behalf of the members of the House to Iran's political leadership and to
the families of the thousands of victims of the destructive quake.
[02] Economic Statistics report for 2001 released
The Statistical Service of the Republic has announced the release of the
report "Economic Statistics on Education, Health and Other Social and
Personal Service Activities, 2001". The report provides comprehensive data
on gross output, inputs, expenditure on fixed assets and employment in the
various activities of the aforementioned sectors. The report is obtainable
from the Government Printing Office at <SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 12pt; FONT-
