[01] The President of the House of Representatives met with the Indonesian
Ambassador
The President of the House of Representatives, Mr Demetris Christofias, met
on 5 June 2002, with the Indonesian Ambassador, Mr Zarkowi Sojoeti, on the
occasion of his departure from Cyprus.
During their meeting, the Indonesian Ambassador expressed his thanks and
the hope that the current good relations between Cyprus - Indonesia will be
extended in other areas except the political cooperation. Indonesia, Mr
Sojoeti stated, supports completely the UN resolutions and he believes that
a fair and viable solution of the Cyprus problem should be based on
them.
[02] Activities for Cyprus in Berlin
The Centre of Eastern Europe in Berlin organized on 27 May 2002 a series of
informative activities on Cyprus, with key speakers, Professor Dr Pavlos
Tzermias and the Euro-MP Co-President of the Joint EU-Cyprus Parliamentary
Committee, Mrs Mechtild Rothe. The opening ceremony for the activities was
inaugurated on 3 April 2002 by the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus in
Berlin, Dr Christos N. Psilogenis.
During the ceremony, Dr Tzermias made a historical update of the Cyprus
problem and the prospects for a solution of the problem. Mrs Rothe/s speech
was of particular interest. She made special reference to the recent
resolution based on the Poos report for the Cyprus problem by the European
Parliament. The resolution refers to a solution of the Cyprus problem based
on a bi-communal, bi-zonal state with a central government, which will,
inter alia, have competences to exercise external and european policy.
