The decision, which circulated as an official document of the Parliamentary Assembly on 21 January, constitutes the reply of the Committee of Ministers to the Parliamentary Assembly's recommendation 1529/2001 dated 28.6.2001.Paragraph 6 of the decision refers to the case of Titina Loizidou as follows: "As regards more specific issues raised in the recommendations, the Committee of Ministers wishes to inform the Assembly that with regard to the Loizidou case, (paragraph 2 (i) of the recommendation), it examined the situation following its third Interim Resolution (2001) 80, on 2-3 October and 4-5 December 2001. The Committee of Ministers reiterates the fundamental importance it attaches to member states respecting their obligations under the European Convention of Human Rights and in particular their obligation to abide by the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights." [02] Cyprus and Egypt sign a protocol of consultationsA protocol of consultations was signed yesterday in Nicosia, between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, in the framework of enhancing the friendly relations between the two countries.The Protocol provides for bilateral contacts and consultations in fields, such as political, economic and scientific including technical and cultural cooperation at annual meetings between high-ranking officials of the two countries. The meetings will take place alternatively in Nicosia and Cairo. The protocol was signed on behalf of the Republic of Cyprus by the Permanent Secretary of the Foreign Ministry Mr Christodoulos Pasiardis and on behalf of the Arab Republic of Egypt by the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaaban. Before the signing of the Protocol, official talks were held between the delegations of the two countries, headed by Mr Pasiardis and Dr Shaaban. During the talks, bilateral relations, developments in the Cyprus problem, Cyprus' EU accession course, the Middle East problem, Euro-Mediterranean cooperation as well as other international and regional issues were thoroughly discussed. Following the talks, Dr Shaaban had a courtesy meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Ioannis Kasoulides.
