[01] Cyprus protests against violations of its national airspace
The Government of the Republic of Cyprus has made all necessary demarches
to international
Organizations, protesting against repeated violations of its airspace by
Turkish military aircraft on 24 - 26 December 2001.
A press release issued by the Ministry of Defence says that Turkish
military aircraft has repeatedly violated, Cyprus´ national airspace and
the Nicosia Flight Information Region, during the aforementioned period
Ïn December 24, a total of 19 Turkish military aircraft violated Cyprus´
national airspace 13 times and four times violated the Nicosia FIR. On
December 25, ten Turkish warplanes violated Cyprus´ airspace seven times
and five times the Nicosia FIR. On December 26, eleven Turkish fighting
jets violated 10 times Cyprus´ airspace and five times the Nicosia
FIR.
