[01] The Government Spokesman on the forthcoming talks
The purpose of the forthcoming intercommunal talks on 16 January 2002 is
the reunification of Cyprus and the evolution of the united state in a
federal one, the Government Spokesman Mr Michalis Papapetrou said . In a
statement to the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation yesterday , the Spokesman
pointed out that President Clerides was able to protect the interests of
the Greek Cypriots and to utilise any opportunity for the solution of the
Cyprus problem.
The Government Spokesman called on the Turkish side to make spectacular
movements and adopt new positions in substantial issues, which would be
within the framework of the UN resolutions, given that the Greek Cypriot
side had already made most of the concessions it was possible to make.
