[01] Cyprus ratifies convention against terrorism

Cyprus on 24.1.01 presented before the United Nations the instruments of ratification of the International Convention against Terrorist Bombings, which was adopted by the UN General Assembly on 15 December 1997.

[02] British High Commissioner says abduction was a "serious crime on British territory"

The British High Commissioner in Cyprus, Edward Clay, said yesterday that the reconstruction by SBA police of the abduction by Turks of Panicos Tsiakourmas, was powerful evidence of a serious crime committed on British territory.

"To me, the evidence is extremely powerful that the SBA police hypothesis is the right one… they are investigating a serious crime on British territory", he said.

The SBA police staged a dramatic re-enactment of the abduction in order to confirm openly that it took place inside sovereign British territory. It suggests a version of events contradicting that of the regime in the Turkish-occupied area.
