[01] Turkish occupation forces violate status quo in buffer zone

"The occupation regime and Ankara, realising their weakness and isolation as a result of their decision to torpedo the proximity talks and in an attempt to disorientate public opinion, are trying to manufacture tension in the area of Pyla, Government Spokesman, Mr Michalis Papapetrou, said yesterday.

Mr Papapetrou was referring to the military construction works carried out in the last few days by the Turkish occupation forces in the mixed village of Pyla in the buffer zone - an act that constitutes a violation of the status quo in the area.

"The Republic of Cyprus is making representations and is in contact with UNFICYP demanding restoration of the status quo ante and a cessation of the construction of fortifications and new outposts", he added.

[02] Cyprus and India sign air transport agreement

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communications and Works Mr Vasos Pyrgos and the High Commissioner of India Mrs Shyamala Cowsik, yesterday signed an air transport agreement between Cyprus and India.

According to the agreement, the national airlines of Cyprus and India can carry out flights from and to the two countries or transit flights to third countries. The agreement also enables each of the two national airlines to fly over and land in the territory of the other and regulates the frequency of flights, costs and fares.
