[01] President Clerides' Easter Message

The resurrection of Christ offers faith, strength, decisiveness, and hope; it gives moral strength to every person in every walk of life, fighting his own battles and looking forward to justice, President Glafcos Clerides has said in his Easter Message.

The people of Cyprus are for the past 26 years fighting their own battle, as a result of the Turkish invasion and continuing occupation, he said, and added:

"However, we believe in and hope for our own resurrection, which is identified with a great vision: the vision of the freedom of Cyprus through a just, lasting and viable solution for the benefit of all Cypriots; a solution that is in line with the acquis communautaire since we aim to join the European Union; a solution that respects and protects the basic human rights."

President Clerides said that the governments of Cyprus and Greece cooperate and work closely together for Cyprus' resurrection and thanked the government and the political leadership in Greece and all Hellenes abroad for their invaluable support in Cyprus' struggle.

He also sent warm wishes to the enclaved people in occupied Cyprus, to the refugees, to the families of missing persons and to the armed forces.

"I hope we can celebrate next Easter in a united, peaceful and happy Cyprus, " he concluded.
