[02] Cyprus strongly protests to UN for new violations by Turkish military aircraft

Cyprus' Charge d'Affaires to the United Nations Mr Droushiotis strongly protested to the UN for violations of Cyprus' airspace and of the flight information region of Nicosia by Turkish Air Force military aircraft, recorded on 19, 21 and 22 March.

In a letter to the UN Secretary - General dated 24 March, Mr Droushiotis pointed out that these new provocative acts by Turkey demonstrate its blatant disregard of international law, the UN Charter and all the relevant decisions of the UN on the question of Cyprus.

Furthermore the violations are not conducive to reducing tension in the region and run counter to the initiative of the Secretary - General.

The letter circulated as an official UN document.
