[01] Cypriot professor on the BOD of international organisationDr. Alexandros Charalambides, Assistant Professor at the Department of Environmental Science and Technology of the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), has been elected to serve as the Young International Solar Energy Society (ISES) Representative on the ISES Board of Directors for the 2014-15 term.ISES (www.ises.org), an international non-profit UN-accredited membership NGO founded in 1954, has a long history of acting as the trusted global advisor on renewable energy and this remains its core value. It works to achieve 100% renewable energy for all, used efficiently and wisely, by providing the global renewable energy community with a collective, scientifically credible voice and up-to-date information gathered and synthesized by its talented members. [02] State calls on voters to register for Euro-electionsThe Central Electoral Service has announced that April 2 is the deadline for the registration of voters for the European Elections of May 25. The same date applies for Cypriot citizens wishing to vote abroad.Entitled to vote are all citizens of the Republic of Cyprus who on May 25 will be aged 18 and over, whose regular residence is in Cyprus, and citizens of other EU member states who wish to vote for Cypriot MEPs. For Cypriot citizens voting abroad, there will be polling stations in Greece, the United Kingdom and Belgium. [03] Cyprus' deposit outflow slows down in NovemberDeposits in the Cyprus banking system declined by €138.5 million in November 2013 to €46.17 billion figures released on Friday by the Central Bank of Cyprus show.This is smallest outflow of deposits since January 2013, reflecting signs of stabilization in the system, since the March €10 billion bailout which featured a haircut of uninsured deposits to save the island`s ailing banks. On a positive note, domestic residents deposits increased by €374 million to €32.86 billion. Deposits of residents from other Euro area residents declined by €44.1 million to €2.63 billion, whereas deposits from non-euro area residents declined by €468.4 million to €11.67 billion. [04] Cyprus records deflation in 2013 for first time since 1964Cyprus recorded a rate of deflation in 2013 of -0.4% for the first year since 1964, according to data published on Friday by the Cyprus Statistical Service.In December 2013 deflation of - 2.3% was recorded for the second consecutive month, compared to a rate of deflation of -2.1% in November 2013 and inflation of 1.1% in December 2012. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for December 2013 fell by 0.34 units or 0.29% to 117.49 units compared to 117.83 in November 2013.
