  • [01] Cyprus signs aviation agreement with EU and Israel

Cyprus signed an agreement in the field of aviation with the EU and Israel, signaling closer cooperation with Tel Aviv, the market's gradual opening and legal convergence.

According to an official announcement, the agreement was signed in Luxembourg, in the framework of the Transport Council, that took place on June 10.

[02] Defendants found guilty in Hadjicostis murder case

The four defendants for the murder trial of SIGMA TV CEO Andis Hadjicostis were found guilty on Thursday by the Nicosia Assize Court. They were sentenced to life imprisonment. The decision was taken by unanimity by all three judges.

Former TV presenter Elena Skordelli, her brother Tasos Krasopoulis, Andreas Gregoriou and Grigoris Xenofontos were found guilty of conspiracy to murder and premeditated murder. One other person Theofanis Hadjigeorgiou, who was also initially charged, was the main prosecution witness and has been placed under police protection.

President of the Court, Nicolaos Santis, read out the 380-page verdict, saying that the Court found that Theofanis Hadjigeorgiou was a credible witness. Santis said that the motive for Skordeli and her brother (both shareholders at Sigma TV) was revenge. He added, they masterminded the murder, following shareholder disputes with the victim. Referring to the other two defendants, Santis said that their motive was money.
