  • [01] Energy Minister held constructive talks with Lebanon

    Minister of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism Georgios Lakkotrypis had a substantive and constructive discussion with his Lebanese counterpart, Government Spokesman Christos Stylianides said on Friday.

    Stylianides did not dismiss reports that during Lakkotrypis and his Lebanese counterpart agreed during a telephone conversation to begin talks on a technocratic level on issues of joint hydrocarbon exploitation, after Beirut commences its first licensing round on hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation for its offshore blocks. Lakkotrypis will visit Israel on Monday.

    "Lakkotrypis` contacts were substantive and constructive," Stylianides said responding to questions but refrained from elaborating.

    [02] CIPA to host 2013 Global Russia Business Meeting

    The Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency (CIPA) will host the 2013 Global Russia Business Meeting which is organized by Horasis, under the auspices of President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades. CIPA also hosted the 2011 Global Russia Business Meeting.

    According to a CIPA press release, The 2013 Global Russia Business Meeting will take place in Limassol, Cyprus, 14-15 April. The meeting is supported by several international and Russian organizations. The Global Russia Business Meeting is one of the foremost gatherings of leaders in business and government to share visions on opportunities and challenges in Russia and the world at large. The aim of the meeting is to stimulate thought and action for Russian firms` sustained economic success in a globalised world.

    The Horasis events bring together highly influential groups of business leaders to discuss collaborative approaches to addressing sustainable growth issues. The meetings are the foremost annual gatherings of business leaders from emerging markets and their global counterparts. The events are open to the Chief Executive Officers of the world`s leading companies.

    [03] Cyprus and Russia sign agreement on mutual protection

    Cyprus and the Russian Federation have signed an agreement on mutual protection and the exchange of classified information.

    According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Defence, the agreement is particularly important and constitutes a step towards deepening and enhancing bilateral relations.

    As it is noted, the agreement indicates the mutual trust between the two states and establishes the ground for more agreements in the future in fields as the economy, industry, defence, security crime prevention and others, which require the secure exchange and dissemination of classified information.

    [04] Cyprus Airways cautiously optimistic over deal with Chinese investors

    Cyprus Airways President Stavros Stavrou appeared cautiously optimistic over a deal with a Chinese investment company for the acquisition of Cyprus` national air carrier.

    Earlier on Friday, Cyprus Airways announced that a Chinese company, Beijing Yi Xiang Da Investment Co Ltd, expressed interest for the acquisition of Cyprus air carrier. "Even though indications for a deal with the above company appear to be encouraging there is no specific agreement to announce for the time being," Cyprus Airways said in a press release.

    "We are optimistic that we may be able to conclude an agreement in principle," Stavrou told CNA, adding that Cyprus Airways has had already two meetings with the Chinese investment firm.
