    President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades will hold a meeting on Friday with US Vice President Joe Biden.

    The meeting take place upon an initiative of the US official.

    [02] FINMIN issues 12th decree for foreign banks

    The Ministry of Finance has issued the 12th decree for the Enforcement of Temporary Restrictive Measures on Transactions of Foreign Banks in Cyprus.

    According to the decree, issued Friday following the consent of the Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus, foreign banks can open current/sight accounts, provided that the said current/sight account will only be used for the servicing of a loan.

    The decree applies for a 35-day period, until the 24th of October. According to statements by the Finance Minister, Harris Georgiades, the restrictive measures will be lifted in the first months of 2014.

    [03] New momentum needed in Cyprus talks, says President

    A new momentum that will again bring the need for a solution to the Cyprus issue to the forefront must be built, President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades has told members of the London Cypriot community.

    In an event at the Cypriot Community Centre in north London, organised by the National Federation of Cypriots in the UK on Friday evening, President Anastasiades spoke of the importance for the negotiations over the reunification of the island to be substantial. He said this should not be about accusing each other, nor having talks just for the sake of talking.

    "Statements that refer to the existence of two states on the island are not in line with the international agreements and the United Nations resolutions, nor do they contribute to a positive climate", said Anastasiades, adding that any new negotiation process should not ignore Cyprus's EU membership.

    [04] Unemployment in Cyprus reaches 15,5% in Q2 2013

    Unemployed persons in Cyprus in the second quarter of the current year reached 15,5% or 68,300 persons, a Labour Force Survey published by Cyprus Statistical Service reads.

    The unemployment rate amounted to 15.5% of the labour force (males 16,2% and females 14,6%) recording a decrease from the previous quarter of 2013, 15,9% (males 16,2%, females 15,4%) but an increase from the corresponding quarter of 2012, 11,3% (males 12,1% and females 10,4%).

    Furthermore, Also the unemployment rate for young persons aged 15-24 amounted to 40,3% of the labour force of the same age group recording an increase from the previous quarter of 2013, 37,5% and the corresponding quarter of 2012, 25,9%.

    [05] Hungarian officials reassure for their country's principled stance on Cyprus problem

    Hungarian officials expressed their firm support to a solution of the Cyprus problem based on the international law and the European principles and values​​.

    The assurances came during a two-day visit in Hungary of the President of the Cyprus-Hungary Friendship Group in Cyprus Parliament Averof Neophytou and member Phidias Sarikas.

    According to an official announcement, during the visit, Neophytou and Sarikas were received by the Vice President of the Hungarian National Assembly János Latorcai and had separate meetings with the President of the Parliamentary Hungary-Cyprus Friendship Group Zoltán Köszegi, the President of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs Mihály Balla, the Vice President of the Parliamentary Committee on European Affairs Mátyás Firtl and the State Secretary for European Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Gergely Pröhle.
