  • [01] Cypriot MP and Singapore High Commissioner discuss global crisis

    The global financial crisis and its effects on the economies of Cyprus and Singapore were the focus of a meeting between Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee of Foreign and European Affairs Christos Stylianides and Singapore High Commissioner to Cyprus Philip Eng Heng Nee, on Monday.

    An official press release issued here said that the two men also exchanged views as regards the experiences of the two countries in the areas of financial and shipping services.

    The progress achieved in EU - Singapore relations in the context of the Cyprus EU Council Presidency was also discussed.

    [02] EU - Tunisia relations reviewed at EU - Tunisia Association Council

    The EU - Tunisia relations were reviewed Monday during the EU Association Council with Tunisia which took place in Brussels.

    Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs Erato Kozakou Markoullis, who represented the EU on behalf of High Representative Catherine Ashton at the Council, said in a press conference that it was the third Tunisian high level visit to Brussels this year, which proves the intensity of the EU- Tunisia relations.

    "We are here today to reaffirm, once again, the privileged partnership between Tunisia and the European Union, as symbolised by our political agreement of the new EU Tunisia Action Plan", she said.

    [03] Minister of Communications to meet ship-owners in Athens

    The Minister of Communications and Works Efthimios Flourentzou, who is on a three-day visit to Athens, will have meetings at the highest level with the Cyprus Union of Ship-owners and shipping companies based in Greece and have their ships registered in the Cyprus ship Registry.

    The problems faced by the shipping industry as a result of the global economic crisis will be discussed during the meetings.
