[01] Mayor and MEPs deplore occupation regime's stance at Morphou event
Mayor of the Turkish-occupied town of Morphou Charalambos Pittas, British
MEP Nikki Sinclaire and Cypriot MEP Antigoni Papadopoulou have deplored
the occupation regime for hindering a delegation of MEPs, foreign MPs and
representatives of foreign municipalities from crossing the Astromeritis
checkpoint and demanding that they be accompanied by a Turkish guide.
The delegation is in Cyprus for the 32nd anti-occupation rally to Morphou,
organised by the Morphou Municipality, the local authorities of the 30
occupied villages of the Morphou area and all the Morphou athletic and
cultural organisations, held in the presence of delegations of members
from the European, British and Greek parliaments and Mayors and Councilors
from the UK, Greece, France, Malta and Switzerland.
In a speech at the event, Pittas said the demand of the Turkish occupation
regime was unacceptable and that the delegation turned back without
visiting Morphou.
