Addressing a gathering in Pisssouri , President Christofias said the island is going through a difficult time due to the global economic crisis. He said the crisis originates from the economic model of the lawless markets, and is a perfect opportunity for some to set aside even further human rights and labour norms. [03] President says funding for rural areas amounted to half a bln in recent yearsThe Cyprus government aims at tackling the problems of agriculture by looking ahead, towards the sustainable and innovative development of the rural areas, President of the Republic Demetris Christofias said.Speaking at Arakapas village, in the southern district of Limassol, the President said that "we strive daily for the rural world to take the place it deserves in Cypriot society". He further noted that the government takes particular action to enhance farmers` income and improve everyday life for residents of rural areas.
