[01] Juvenile delinquency on the rise in Cyprus, says CommissionerJuvenile delinquency is rising, said Leda Koursoumba, Commissioner for Children's Rights in Cyprus, noting that there should be juvenile courts to handle such cases.She also said that the state should address the reasons that led children to such behaviour. Addressing the European Network of Ombudspersons for Children (ENOC) 16th annual conference, taking place today and tomorrow, she said that the conference will examine issues which the 42 European independent children's rights institutions have very high on their respective national agendas, in the framework of the increasing number of international and regional human rights instruments promoting a child-friendly justice system. [02] Commission: Cypriot economy`s competitiveness deterioratesThe Cypriot economy`s cost competitiveness has deteriorated significantly over the past decade, according to a European Commission overview of competitiveness in the 27 EU member states.The Commission notes that labour productivity growth has been offset by the growth of prices and wages. The challenge, it says, is to maintain and increase exports so as to keep the current account balance from posing serious long-term problems. [03] Cyprus, Greece, Italy and Malta to sign Blue Med agreementCyprus, Greece, Italy and Malta to sign Blue Med agreement a Functional Airspace Block.An official press release issued here Wednesday says that the functional airspace block constitutes an effort to achieve a more effective operation of the air traffic control network. Research has shown that the network stands to have a positive effect on both air space users and airlines. The agreement will be signed on the sidelines of the Single European Sky conference "A time for action". [04] Cyprus January-August trade deficit declinesCyprus' external trade deficit for the period of January - August declined by €392 million reaching €2.93 billion, from €3.32 in the corresponding period of 2011.According to preliminary estimates of the Cyprus Statistical Service, total imports in the first eight months of 2012 dropped by €378 million reaching €3.89 billion, whereas total exports rose by €14.3 million reaching €961.5 million. According to the preliminary figures, in August the deficit in the trade balance declined by €97 million reaching €359.4 million. Total imports in August 2012 amounted to €456.2 million from €562.9 million, of which €318.0 million were imports from EU member-states and €147.2 fro non EU states.
