[01] European Left discusses in Cyprus developments in the Middle East
The situation in Syria and Iran, revolutionary movements in Arab
countries, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the dangers of a possible
war in the Middle East, as well as the role of the US and their allies in
the region were the focus of a session of the Study Days of the European
United Left/Nordic Green Left (GUE/NGL) hosted on Tuesday in Nicosia,
by Cyprus left-wing party AKEL.
Representatives of AKEL and communist parties from Syria, Lebanon, Iran,
Palestine, Israel and Egypt made interventions during the session entitled
"The Middle East problem, changes in the region and the possibility of
a new war."
Member of AKEL Political Bureau Yiannakis Colokasides said that a possible
new war and military intervention in Syria and Iran will involve all
the countries of the region, will lead the peoples to bloodshed and will
divide them even more, weakening them.
