Government Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou announced Monday President Demetris Christofias’ decisions for a partial Cabinet reshuffle.

Former Mayor of Nicosia Eleni Mavrou was appointed new Minister of Interior.

Replying to questions, Stephanou said that the outgoing Minister of Trade had submitted orally her resignation to the President several days ago.

Handover ceremonies will be held Tuesday at the Ministries of Interior and Trade and on Friday at the Ministry of Finance.

[02] President: Prospects of economy promising

The prospects of the Cypriot economy are promising despite its unfair downgrading by international rating agencies, President of the Republic Demetris Christofias has said.

Addressing Monday the Cyprus Export Awards 2010, in Nicosia, President Christofias said that the development of the Cypriot economy in recent years was mainly achieved thanks to the dynamism of many Cypriot businesses.

``Through their creative efforts``, he said, ``Cypriot businesspeople convey the message that they can overcome difficulties because they are determined and ready to work hard``.

Private initiatives, the President added, amidst the world economic crisis, have managed, in cooperation with the Cypriot state, to exploit many opportunities in the economic sector.
