    Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Antonis Paschalides said on Thursday that prospects to deepen and expand cooperation with neighbouring countries, despite developments in the region, could produce new favourable financial cooperation and investments.

    Addressing an event hosted by the State Fair Authority for foreign ambassadors and other officials on the role of Cyprus in the economic growth of the broader Mediterranean region, Paschalides said that ``the broader region of the Mediterranean, despite the challenges that appear from time to time, always offers new prospects and opportunities for investments and business cooperation,`` adding that ``the role of Cyprus in the economic development of the region has every possibility of being catalytic.``

    Paschalides referred to the comparative advantages of Cyprus and noted that ``over the past 20 years Cyprus has developed into a modern international financial centre.``

    He especially noted the signing of agreements for the delimitation of Cyprus` exclusive economic zone, and the important role Cyprus could play in investments and cooperation concerning energy and renewable energy sources.

    Paschalides furthermore referred to tourism and prospects for investments, as well as cooperation with neighbouring countries in the maritime sector.

    [02] BOLIVIAN PRESIDENT CYPRUS ISSUE

    President of Bolivia Evo Morales assured that he will continue to support the negotiations for a solution to the Cyprus problem under the auspices of the United Nations and wished that a solution that will reunify Cyprus will be reached soon.

    According to an official announcement, Morales was speaking during a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace in La Paz, on 24 March, where Ambassador Martha Mavrommatis presented, her credentials as the new Ambassador of Cyprus to Bolivia, based in Brasilia.

    It is added that the President of Bolivia referred to the excellent cooperation and mutual support of the two countries in international organisations, adding that this cooperation could be further extended at bilateral and multilateral levels, especially between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs. He also conveyed his greetings to the President and the people of the Republic of Cyprus.

    [03] MINISTER PALESTINIAN PRESIDENT ENVOY

    Issues concerning Palestinians of Iraq who live in Cyprus and the policy which the Labour and Social Insurance Ministry is following in the framework of the governments strategy to enable legal immigrants have access to the labour market, were examined during a meeting on Thursday between Labour Minister Sotiroula Charalambous and President of the Fatah Parliamentary Group Azzam Al-Ahmad.

    The Palestinian official is paying an official visit to Cyprus as an envoy of the President of the Palestinian National Authority Mahmoud Abbas.

    Thanking Al-Ahmad for Abbas initiative to send an envoy to discuss these issues, Charalambous underlined the significance which her ministry pays in helping legal immigrants enter the labour market since it is an essential ingredient in enabling them accede in the Cypriot society.
