[01] CYPRIOT FEDERATION OF AMERICA - CONVENTIONThe positive course and high prestige that the Cypriot Federation of America enjoys in the Greek American community, Cyprus and Greece and decision making centres in Washington, were highlighted during its 38th National Convention in New York on Saturday, that was organised in New York.Archbishop Demetrios of America attended the convention while the Cypriot government was represented by Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus Nicolas Emiliou. Health Minister Christos Patsalides could not attend due to the cancellation of flights from Europe. The greek government was represented by Deputy Foreign Spyros Kouvelis while representatives of the Greek Parliament including Elpida Tsouri, Chrysa Arapoglou, Ioannis Tragakis, Spyros Taliadouros, Kyriakos Velopoulos and Gregoris Psarianos as well as the ambassadors of Greece and Cyprus in the US were present. During the convention, the federation honoured veteran Cypriot and founding member of the Lambousa association, Aris Demetriou from Karavas as well as the federations long standing cashier, Nicos Neokleous. [02] COMMUNICATIONS MINISTER - EU-TURKEY AVIATION AGREEMENTThe Republic of Cyprus will seek legal advice from the EU Council`s Legal Service on the horizontal aviation agreement initialed between EU and Turkey.Speaking during a press conference, Cyprus Minister of Communications and Works Erato Kozakou Markoulli said that she gave instructions to Cyprus Permanent Representative to Brussels to seek legal advice from the EU Council`s Legal Service on whether this agreement abides by the acquis communautaire and if any of its provisions can be considered as harmful for the Republic of Cyprus. EU and Turkey initialed on March 25 an aviation agreement which will remove nationally restrictions in the bilateral air services agreements between EU member states and Turkey, and will allow any EU will allow any EU airline to operate flights between any EU member state and Turkey, where a bilateral agreement with Turkey exists and traffic rights are available.
