[01] ARCHBISHOP - CONSTANTINOPLEArchbishop of Cyprus Chrysostomos` II arrived on Sunday morning to Constantinople for an official visit, at the invitation of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.The Archbishop visited Brussels earlier this week where he addressed a seminar and had meetings with European officials. He was scheduled to fly from Brussels to Constantinople on Friday. However, Brussels` airport remained closed after the huge ash cloud from an Icelandic volcano, spread out across Europe. The Archbishop travelled on Saturday from Brussels to Barcelona, from where he departed on a private jet. On Sunday morning he arrived at Constantinople airport. From there he went to the monastery of Zoodochos Pigi in Balukli where he and Bartholomew lead a liturgy and addressed each other. Later on, the Patriarch will host an official luncheon in honour of the Arcbhishop and his entourage. [02] CHRISTOFIAS WILL NOT ATTEND POLISH PRESIDENT`S FUNERALCyprus President Demetris Christofias will not be able to travel to Poland to attend the funeral of the Polish President Lech Kaczynski and his wife.President Christofias was scheduled to leave Cyprus on Sunday morning for Poland to represent the Republic of Cyprus to the funeral but his flight was cancelled due to the continued closure of airports around the skies of Europe caused by the huge ash cloud from an Icelandic volcano Cyprus News Agency: News in English Directory - Previous Article - Next Article |
