The building facilities at the Nicosia Conference Centres hill will be ready in January 2012, approximately six months before the initiation of the Cyprus Presidency of the European Union.

The contract for the project, construction and maintenance of the Conference Centre and Philoxenia Hotel for the needs of the Cyprus EU Presidency, signed on Tuesday at the presence of Nicos Nicolaides, Cyprus Minister of Communications and Works, Andreas Moleskis, Head of the Cyprus EU Presidency Office 2012, and a delegation from the Cyprus Foreign Ministry.

The contract, of 20.472.000 euro plus VAT, signed on behalf of the government by Alekos Michaelides, Director of the Department of Public Works, and by Miltiades Neophytou, on behalf of Miltiades Neophytou Civil Engineering Contractors and Developers Ltd.

The project includes the construction of a conference rooms, a room for the working lunches of the Ministers, rooms for the delegations and a Press room, rooms for exhibitions, restaurants, coffee shops and many other places, Minister Nicolaides said.

[02] CTO - DISTINCTION

A CTO press release said this was an important and particularly honourary distinction. The evaluation was conducted by an independent institute of researches in The Netherlands after a research in all tourist agencies of the country.

The award-giving ceremony for tourist businesses/organizations took place in January in Utrecht.

This is a distinction which honours not only the CTO but Cyprus in general, since it contributes to the promotion the high level services provided by the island as a tourist destination, CTO added.
