[01] NEW LARNAKA AIRPORT - SMOOTH RUN
Operations at the new Larnaka International Airport, which opened
barely a month ago, are running smoothly, Minister of Communications
and Works Nicos Nicolaides has said. The Minister, who inspected on
Monday the airport, had a meeting with the administrator of the new
airport terminal, officials from the Department of Civil Aviation and
other interested state and private services in a bid to examine any
problems which might have arisen during the first four weeks since the
new terminal opened to air traffic. Larnaka International Airport began
operating on November 17.
``The operation of the new terminal has been successful and we must say
so as the transition from the old to the new airport is a difficult
task,`` Nicolaides said in statements after the meeting. The Cypriot
Minister added that ``there were no problems affecting the flow of air
traffic,`` noting that any problems that emerged were dealt with
immediately and efficiently.
Regarding the future use of the old terminal, Nicolaides said that
there are some thoughts and recommendations by the Administrator, as
part of his contract. We are assessing these ideas which affect both
the old airport as well as the surrounding area of the new airport to
find the best possible solutions which would further improve the new
airport, the Minister added.
