[01] UN CHIEF - DOWNER
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon informed the Security Council members
on Friday of his intention to appoint former Australian Minister of
Foreign Affairs Alexander Downer as his special adviser on the Cyprus
problem.
Furthermore, it was confirmed that the UN chief will be meeting in
Paris on July 13 with President of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris
Christofias and in Berlin on July 15 with Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet
Ali Talat.
[02] HOUSE - PRICES - EURO
The plenary of the House of Representatives adopted yesterday a law
proposal for the extension, until the end of December 2008, of the
compulsory dual display (in Cyprus pounds and euros) of goods and
services prices.
The proposal, submitted by Marinos Sizopoulos, member of the Cyprus
Movement of Social Democrats EDEK, was adopted by 21 votes in favour
and 20 votes against.
The extension of the compulsory dual display of prices is necessary for
the better understanding of the market and the cost of the goods and
services, despite the fact that consumers have significantly adjusted
to the euro, Sizopoulos said.

The Australian division of the American Hellenic Educational
Progressive Association (AHEPA) will be holding an extraordinary
