[01] CYPRUS FM - VISITSCyprus Foreign Minister Marcos Kyprianou leaves Tuesday for Paris to attend a dinner hosted by French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner for his EU counterparts.During the dinner Foreign Ministers will exchange views on the issues which France will have to address, when it assumes the EU rotating presidency from July 1st until December 31st, 2008. Kyprianou will travel from Paris to London where he will accompany Cyprus President Demetris Christofias who will pay a visit to Britain June 4-5. After his visit to London, the Foreign Ministers will travel to Tirana, Albania, for an official visit, June 6-7. During his visit, Kyprianou will hold talks with his Albanian counterpart Lulzim Basha. He will also be received by the President of the country Bamir Topi and Prime Minister Sali Berisha. He will also hold a meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament Jozefina Topalli. During his visit to Tirana, Kyprianou will be accompanied by a group of Cypriot businessmen and he will sign an agreement on International Passengers and Goods Road Transport between the Republic of Cyprus and the Ministerial Council of Albania. Cypriot FM will also pay an official visit to Moscow June 8-10. He will hold talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov and he will attend a dinner with Russian MPs. He will return to Cyprus, June 10. [02] GREECE - CYPRUS - MILITARY COOPERATIONThe close and excellent cooperation between Greece and Cyprus at all levels, but mainly at the military, was confirmed during a meeting between Greek National Guard Minister Evangelos Meimarakis and Cyprus Defence Minister Costas Papacostas, who is paying an official visit to Greece.During their meeting, the two ministers discussed cooperation between Athens and Nicosia, in the framework of the EU Common Security and Defence Policy, as well as cooperation between the two ministries. Papacostas described as unjustified Turkish protests against international military manoeuvres code-named Argonaftis, conducted June 2-6 in the southern government controlled part of Cyprus and in international waters, under the coordination of the National Guard General Staff, with the participation of sea and air forces of the Republic of Cyprus, France and Greece, foreign embassies as well as civil servants of the Republic. [03] CYPRUS - INTERNATIONAL MILITARY MANOEUVRESThe first international military manoeuvres, code-named Argonaftis, began Monday at sea and on land, with the participation of sea and air forces of the Republic of Cyprus, France and Greece and with the presence of 18 representatives of foreign embassies as well as Cypriot civil servants.Argonaftis started early in the morning at Larnaca, a town situated on the southern coast of Cyprus, with a tabletop exercise for crisis management. A Defence Ministry spokesman said that the exercise scenario involves mass arrivals of citizens from the Middle East and is based on the experiences from the Lebanon crisis in 2006. It also involves the collaboration between governmental services and Embassies, the coordination of the ships carrying the citizens to Cyprus and the transportation of injured adults and children. [04] HOUSE PRESIDENT - PORTUGALPresident of the House of Representatives Marios Karoyan left for Portugal on Monday, for an official visit at the invitation of Parliament Speaker Jamie Gama.In statements before departure, Karoyan said that he will be received by the Portuguese President and meet the Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Parliaments European and Foreign Affairs Friendship Group and other officials. I look forward to the visit which will be supportive of relations with Portugal and strengthen our efforts to further promote links between the parliaments of Cyprus and Portugal both at European fora and in other areas, said Karoyan. He added that during his contacts he will examine possibilities for further cooperation in various sectors such as culture and technology.
