  • [01] ECHR - MISSING PERSONS CASE

The family of a Greek Cypriot, missing since the 1974 Turkish invasion and recently confirmed dead, has taken legal action against Turkey at the European Court of Human Rights.

The wife and children of Stelios Savvides Charalambous, whose remains have been exhumed and identified in 2006, demand that Turkey is condemned by the Court for violation of Charalambous human rights.

This is the second such application against Ankara, filed by the family of a Greek Cypriot who was included in the long list of persons missing since the invasion. The first case was filed by Demetris Koutras family in 2007. Koutras was shot dead and found with two bullets in the head.

    [02] CYPRUS MYANMAR AID

The Republic of Cyprus has decided to grant 30 thousand euros in humanitarian assistance to cyclone hit Myanmar.

An official statement said here Wednesday that the assistance, which will be conveyed through the Red Cross, aims to contribute in the international communitys efforts to support the people of Myanmar.

Myanmar was hit by tropical cyclone Nargis over the weekend, killing at least 22,000 people and leaving 41,000 missing.
