    Demetris Christofias, House President and General Secretary of left-wing AKEL party, is the new President of the Republic of Cyprus.

    Ioannis Kasoulides, the other presidential hopeful, has conceded defeat and congratulated Christofias on his victory.

    Later tonight, Christofias will be proclaimed the new President of Cyprus.
