We believe as we are nearing the end of the election procedure, there will be no serious incident, adding however that the Force is ready, noting that there are 3.300 members of the Force on duty at the moment but this number will increase and by evening, the entire force will be on duty or stand by. He said the Police are ready to handle any serious incident that might occur during the celebrations for the new president. There are two candidates competing for the Republics highest post in this second round of presidential elections: Euro MP and former Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides and House of Representatives President, General Secretary of AKEL Demetris Christofias. A candidate needs to secure 50% plus one vote to be elected President. Kasoulides and Christofias went through to the second round having secured most of the votes in the first round of presidential elections, held last Sunday.
