Commonwealth Heads of State and Government, who are meeting in Kampala, Uganda, have reaffirmed their commitment and support to the decisions taken by CHOGM 2005 held in Malta.

Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos told reporters on the sidelines of CHOGM 2007 deliberations at the Munyonyo Resort that the leaders discussed the climate changes in view of the Bali Conference in December, expressing the view that the Commonwealth should have a voice on climate issues.

They also examined globalisation and the debt of the small Commonwealth countries and how to support them.

President Papadopoulos said there was also a discussion on the progress done on the Malta CHOGM 2005 decisions and these concern membership of the Commonwealth and promotion of tolerance and respect.

On this note, a ministerial committee was set up to prepare suggestions based on a report presented to leaders during their summit on the reasons of non-tolerance.

The heads of state and government also examined the Commonwealth Connects programme, which aims at making technology available to all societies, as well as trade and economic cooperation among the Commonwealth member-states.

``We have reaffirmed the order to continue``, President Papadopoulos said, referring to the Malta CHOGM 2005 decisions.

The leaders elected Kamalesh Sherma, from India, as new Commonwealth Secretary-General. Sherma serves as India`s High Commissioner in London.

On the sidelines of the Commonwealth summit the Cypriot President had the opportunity to meet heads of state and government to discuss Commonwealth issues as well as international problems, including the Cyprus problem.

Among those who met were leaders whose countries are also members of the Organisation of Islamic Conference. He said the Commonwealth ``gives us the opportunity to discuss with many countries which are members of the OIC``.
