[01] ENERGY COMMISSIONER - CYPRUS - ENERGY PACKAGE
EU Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs said he was confident that
Cyprus will support the European Commissions energy package.
At the same time, he said that it is Cyprus sovereign right to extract
oil from its Exclusive Economic Zone.
Speaking during a press conference at the end of his two-day visit to
the island, as part of his visit to the 27 EU member states, to present
the Commission`s new energy policy to the governments and interested
institutions, organizations and businesses and to the media, Piebalgs
noted it is very important to explain to the people of Cyprus the
Commission energy policy.
Invited to comment on the outcome of his talks on the island, Piebalg
said that it was definitely an effort because there are some questions
that have been asked by the Minister and the President. I believe it is
also important to try to explain our energy package to the broader
public in Cyprus is also very helpful.
