[01] CMP - EXHUMATIONS
The project on the exhumation, identification and return of remains of
persons listed as missing is progressing satisfactorily, said Thursday
the Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus (CMP).
A statement by the committee said that ongoing exhumations are being
carried out by the CMP bi-communal team of scientists, under the
guidance of the Argentine Team of Forensic Anthropology (EAAF), in both
Strovolos (in the government controlled areas of the Republic) and the
Kyrenia region (in the Turkish occupied north of the island).
To date, it said, remains believed to belong to three individuals have
been found in Strovolos and to four in Kyrenia.
[02] CTO CHAIRMAN - CYPRUS - TOURISM
Cyprus is bracing itself to deal with increasing competition from
mainly neighbouring countries in its attempt not only to maintain its
current tourist figures but also to improve its services and facilities
and diversify its targeted markets, according to the Chairman of the
Board of Directors of the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) Panos
Englezos.
In an interview with CNA, he said the seven year strategy plan provides
for new projects to attract quality tourism, increase the number of
winter visitors to the island, introduce Cyprus to new prospective
customers, offer facilities for sport, cultural and conference
orientated tourism and agrotourism and possibly offer gambling
facilities through strictly-regulated casinos.
He acknowledges that the discerning tourist is demanding more and more
services and facilities and increasing competition necessitates changes
to help the country meet new challenges.
