[01] CYPRUS OILThe Cypriot government, exercising its sovereign rights, will proceed with the procedures for research and exploitation of oil and natural gas deposits, believed to exist in its exclusive economic zone, despite the threats expressed by Turkey, Government Spokesman Christodoulos Pashiardis has said.Cyprus launched on Thursday the 1st Licensing Round Offshore Cyprus for the grant of hydrocarbon exploration and development licenses, a move which triggered the reaction of Turkey, which through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman declared that Turkey expects the Cypriot government ``to halt its demarches regarding calling international tenders to prospect oil and natural gas.`` ``We do not reply to the indirect threats expressed by Turkey, through the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman. We remain silent and proceed as planned, exercising our sovereign rights,`` Pashiardis said, commenting on the statement. [02] BELGIUM - CMPThe government of Belgium has decided to contribute 250,000 Euros to the Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus (CMP), to enable the Committee to extend its project on the exhumation, identification and return of remains of missing persons to their relatives.Belgiums contribution was welcomed by President of the Pancyprian Organization of Relatives of Missing and Undeclared Prisoners Nicos Theodosiou, who wished that other European Union countries follow Belgiums example and contribute as well to the CMP`s project which has a humanitarian cause. According to a joint press communique from the CMP and the Embassy of Belgium in Cyprus, the government of Belgium supports the work of the CMP because it enhances the dialogue between the communities and brings the concrete evidence that both communities have a strong interest in cooperating in order to go beyond the tragic events of the past and build together their common future. [03] AKIS KLEANTHOUS - EDUCATION MINISTERPresident of the Republic Tassos Papadopoulos has appointed Akis Kleanthous new Minister of Education and Culture.In a written statement on Friday, Government Spokesman Christodoulos Pashiardis says Kleanthous will be sworn in on February 20 and will take over the Ministry. Minister of the Interior Neoklis Sylikiotis is currently also Minister of Education, following the sudden death of Pefkios Georgiades.
