[01] UN - BAN`S COMMENTS
Nothing in UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon` s comments on Wednesday
was intended to signal any change in the UN`s position on the Cyprus
question, a UN spokesman said in New York.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon referred Wednesday in Brussels to the
existence of two countries in Cyprus, something for which the UN has
apologised.
The UN spokesman said ``the Secretary-General is fully aware of the
sensitivity with regard to the terminologies used in discussing the
Cyprus problem.``
[02] OSCE SG - CYPRUS
Cyprus can help in many ways to reinforce the Organisation for Security
and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), said OSCE Secretary General Marc
Perrin de Brichambaut.
Addressing an audience of Cypriot students and local and foreign
diplomats at the Cyprus University, Ambassador Brichambaut, who is
paying an official visit to Cyprus, recalled that Cyprus is a founding
father of the OSCE, which was created in 1975.
He said today the Organisation is an institution where 56 participating
states meet on a permanent basis to discuss burning issues. Nineteen
OSCE field activities are deployed in 17 countries from the Balkans to
Central Asia.
