[01] PROCLAMATION OF MAYORSThe first female mayor of the divided capital Nicosia pledged to work hard with the new municipal council, bearing in mind the needs of the people of the city.Eleni Mavrou, who secured 34,93% of the vote, said it was a very significant moment for her party, AKEL, the fact that a left wing mayor, a woman, was elected in Nicosia, stressing that this means we are proceeding ahead. Galanos said that he will remain faithful to his promises and will be the mayor of all people of Famagusta, noting that for him there is only one party, Famagusta. He said he will try with all his strength to serve the people of Famagusta, in a great new effort and priority for the return of the town. Maria Ioannou Theou, the candidate of the ruling coalition comprising left-wing AKEL, the Democratic Party and the Social Democrats Movement EDEK was proclaimed Mayor of Kyrenia.
