    French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy will be on the same French military helicopter that will carry from Lebanon to Cyprus, this afternoon, European Union Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid Louis Michel and Finnish Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Paula Lehtomaki, whose country holds the current six-monthly EU presidency.

    Cyprus Finance Minister Michalis Sarris, Head of European Commission Representation to Cyprus Themis Themistocleous and the Ambassadors of France and Finland will meet them at Larnaca airport.

    Tonight, Commissioner Michel and Minister Lehtomaki are scheduled to fly on to Tel Aviv aboard a Cyprus Airways flight.

    Tomorrow, they will have talks with Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and Defence Minister Amir Peretz.

    [02] CYPRIOT MINISTER - IMO MEETING - OIL SPILL

    Cypriot Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment Fotis Fotiou departs Thursday for Athens, to participate in the International Maritime Organizations (IMO) meeting in Pireus, Greece, that will coordinate efforts to address the pollution resulting from the oil spill that threatens the eastern Mediterranean.

    The oil spill is currently affecting the coastal and marine environments of Lebanon and Syria.

    Secretary-General of IMO Efthimios Mitropoulos and Achim Steiner, Executive Director of United Nations Enviroment Programm called for a co-ordination meeting in Piraeus, Greece, on Thursday, 17 August 2006 that will be hosted by Manolis Kefaloyannis, Minister of Mercantile Marine of Greece.

    [03] GREECE - HONOUR - FORMER CYPRIOT FM

    The Greek government will honour Cyprus` former Foreign Minister George Iacovou, in recognition of his services to Greek and Cypiot overseas.

    An honorary distinction will be presented to Iacovou by Greece`s Deputy Foreign Minister Theodoros Kassimis, during a special ceremony at the Greek Ambassador`s residence in Nicosia, on 22 August.

    Kassimis will be in Cyprus on the occasion of the annual meetings of the Central Councils of the World Federation of Overseas Cypriots (POMAK) and the International Coordinating Committee - Justice for Cyprus (PSEKA), from 23-25 August, in Nicosia.
